Bowling

 

I. 10 Pin Bowling

a.      Class Name: grades 6 - 8

b.      Skill Level: Control to utilization

c.      Length of Time: 40 minutes

d.      Number of Meetings:1

e.      Major Focus: To practice the two and three step approaches, arm swing, aim, and follow through, to become a bowler, score keeper, and pin setter

II. Safety

a.      Activity: remove all jewelry, no chewing gum, spatial awareness, students must stay under control at all times, NO Interference with other students, pin setters must stand against the wall when a student is bowling, pin setters must roll the bowling balls back to the bowlers, bowlers must practice by performing medium force, controlled rolls

III. Equipment

a.      80 bowling pins

B.     8 carpet bowling lanes

C.     24 floor mats

D.     8 bowling balls

E.     8 folding chairs

F.     rolling chalk board

IV. Objectives

a.      Psychomotor: proper form and technique while bowling, two and three step approaches, final step performed by opposite (non-dominant) foot, arm swing with dominant hand, palm up, wrist locked, bend at the knees and waist, aim, and follow through

b.      Cognitive: understanding the mechanics of a proper ball roll, knowing the pin set up, bowling as a life long activity

c.      Affective: encouragement, advice, peer teaching, cooperation with a partner or small group

            3 or 4 students in a group

            1 student is score keeper

            1 student is bowler

            1 or 2 students are pin setters

            bowler performs 2 rolls and then rotates to pin setter

            pin setter becomes score keeper

            score keeper becomes bowler

            students perform several rotations for practice

            variations - bowl with opposite (non-dominant) hand

                                - 7, 10 split - 7 and 10 pins are placed on the outermost arrows halfway down the lane, the bowler rolls the ball between the two pins to help with his/her aim
