Gymnastics

 

I. Stations

a.      Class Name: grades 6 - 8

b.      Skill Level: Control to utilization

c.      Length of Time: 40 minutes

d.      Number of Meetings: 9

e.      Major Focus: to enhance physical fitness, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, coordination, balance, fine and gross motor skills

II. Safety

a.      Activity: remove all jewelry, no chewing gum, spatial awareness, students must stay under control at all times, NO Interference with other students, only perform the more difficult stunts with a teacher as spotter, must land on feet or tuck head and roll when vaulting

III. Equipment

a.      floor mats, crash mats, wedge mat

B.     spring board, vaulting horse, rubber running lane

C.     even bars, uneven bars, balance beam

D.     low elements, peg board, pull up bar

IV. Objectives

a.      Psychomotor: proper form and technique while performing various gymnastics activities, correct breathing - breath out on the positive force and breath in on the negative force

b.      Cognitive: understanding the benefits of physical activity, physical activity as a life long process, understanding the relationships between strength and flexibility activities and how they benefit each other

c.      Affective: encouragement, advice, peer teaching, cooperation with a partner or small group

            students may wish to challenge themselves against present and past competition in push up, pull up, curl up, and hand stand activities.  Records will be taken and kept on the PE website
