b. Content:
Students form groups (size &
number depends on class size)
Group discussion – choose an animal to
imitate
Put hands together and hold them over
their heads when they have chosen an animal
Instructor calls on each group and a
Group Leader tells what animal his/her group will imitate
Students line up side by side on one
end line of the gymnasium
Instructor sits on a scooter any where
on the gymnasium floor
Instructor calls out one of the
animals to escape, that group moves from one end of the gym to the other,
trying not to be tagged by the instructor
The other two groups remain on the end
line and wait for their group to be called
If a student is tagged by the
instructor, he/she must go to the animal cage (this area can be designated by
cones and can be a space against one of the side walls)
The tagged animals can escape only
when the instructor calls their particular animal’s name
When all of the students are back to
the first end line the instructor can ask them to get into their groups and
discuss another animal they wish to imitate
Repeat the procedure
The instructor may wish to ask
students to be a Zoo Keeper in training and help the instructor tag other
students
The instructor may wish to have all
tagged animals perform push ups, curl ups, or other exercises in the animal
cage
c. Floor Plan – one full gymnasium, game is played the long way, animal cage is located against one side wall, boundaries are basketball side and end lines
