Lesson Plan – Creative Games Part 3

 

I. Play A Created A Game

a.      Class name: All grades 3 – 6

b.      Skill Level: Control to utilization

c.      Length of Time: 45 minutes

d.      Number of Meetings: 3rd class meeting

e.      Major Focus: Cognitive and Affective skills, problem solving, trial and error

f.        Sub-focus: Computer skills, teamwork, strategy

 

II. Safety

a.      Activity: spatial awareness, student must stay under control at all times, all students must get off of all equipment and sit properly when they hear the “freeze” cue

b.      Organizational: students must enter the gymnasium quietly and walk to an open space on the floor, students are not to touch any equipment when entering the gymnasium, students must wait quietly on a designated line before exiting the gymnasium, “no interference” rule

 

III. Equipment

a.      the equipment for the games is pre-established

b.      each team will have three different pieces of equipment

c.      4 desks

d.      3 laptop computers

e.      1 main computer PC

f.        4 Creative Game Worksheets

g.      4 pencils

 

IV. Objectives

a.      Psychomotor: depends on the type of game/activity the group is playing

b.      Cognitive: the student will comprehend the instructions in order to play the game

c.      Affective: the student will cooperate with other students within a group

 

V. Organization

a.      Initiation

·        Attendance

·        Focus of Activity

·        Sub-focus of Activity

·        Computer Worksheet – Assessment Form

·        Safety concerns

·        Divide students into 4 groups

b.      Content

·        4 desks in each corner of the gymnasium

·        1 laptop computer on 3 desks

·        1 main computer PC on the 4th desk

·        Creative Game Worksheets and pencils on each desk

·        Each station will have 3 different pieces of equipment which has been preset by the instructor

·        The teams reconstruct their respective games and demonstrate them in front of the entire class

·        Both the Creative Games Worksheets and the team demonstrations must be very detailed and understandable so as the other groups can play the games

·        Once all of the demonstrations are finished the groups will rotate from station to station trying to play each groups’ games

·        A worksheet will be provided for the groups to fill out in regards to the games they are playing

·        The groups will also be asked to offer any modifications they might have for other groups’ games

c.      Floor Plan – each group will have ¼ of the gymnasium

d.      Closure

·        Ask the class if understanding the rules to another game was difficult or easy?  Why?

·        Were the games challenging or easy?

·        Did each group practice good cooperation skills?
